About Me
Thank you for visiting my blog. I’m so very glad you found your way here. I hope that my posts bring you comfort, a modicum of amusement, and inspiration and that you will feel compelled to share what you have read with others.
I’m a writer, mother and independent public health consultant. I occasionally freelance as an editor/writer and review books for Luxury Reading and Kirkus Media LLC.
When I’m not blogging, I’m attempting to co-run the household, juggle kids + dog + everything else, and run, swim, and practice silence. My blog explores issues of healing, wellness, grieving and loss, and family.
I write a lot, and it’s mostly nonfiction. The two projects unfolding currently include a nonfiction book proposal based on endurance sport and psychological transformation and a memoir based on a profound and powerful experience that I continue to receive, welcome, resist, and accept in varying degrees.
I welcome your thoughts and ideas and expressions. Contact me at skpadilla@hotmail.com or please leave a comment on the blog. Thank you very much for reading.

I’m curious: What’s the significance of the name of your blog?
Love your blog, chica! So fabulous that you are sharing your voice (also have to say that every time I hear “Get Out the Map” I think of you — you introduced that song to me…but love Sunshine and Salad for you too)!
Keep writing my dear !
Sara! I love your blog. Good work!
Love, A. Marie
Dearest Sara,
I love reading your blog. Well, first of all, I can’t believe that I just said that. I am one of those social media hold-outs that never entered the face book world and thus has never had to explain to my family what that vase-looking thing in the background is. I don’t tweet, I don’t skype, and I don’t blog…until now.
I have to tell you that despite having known you for years, I am gaining such insight into what drives you, what inspires you and who you really are (and aspire to be). I see so much incredible change happening in you right now, and I am thrilled that you are open to sharing your realizations, questions and random thoughts with us.
I see a beautiful white magnolia bud that has persistently survived harsh winters and petals that have tentatively tested the sun each spring and summer for years now. Those petals are now opening into full bloom, thriving on the light from within. What a sight to behold.
Cindy
Cindy, thank you so much for your words and for reading mine. I truly value your authenticity and spirit. So happy to have you as a part of my life. abrazos.
Hello,
My name is Ryan Rivera and I have been reading your website for a while now. Yesterday, I came across this article – http://sunshineandsalad.com/tag/post-traumatic-stress/ – and it really caught my attention because it is related to my area of expertise.
My area is helping folks with anxiety, stress, panic attacks and related issues (7+ years in the field). So it got me wondering – perhaps you’d be interested in an expanded guest article on the same, or a similar topic? I think I could provide some additional tips. Or perhaps I could cover a new topic altogether? I would be glad to contribute.
My work has been featured in local radio and TV shows, so I’m sure I can craft something that will work for you and your website. You can always turn it down – no issues. It’d be exclusive to you, around 650 words, but I can make it longer or shorter if you wish. I will also share the story with my 900+ subscribers once published.
Please let me know if you would be interested.
Kind regards,
Ryan Rivera
P.S. I can also send you some links to previously published articles – just let me know if you’d like to see them first.
Hi Ryan,
Thanks so much for writing! I’m very interested in having a guest post explore the theme of PTSD more deeply. Could you please send a sample or two of your work to me at skpadilla@hotmail.com? I look forward to it!
Sara
